Several years ago, my husband allowed a phony Microsoft representative to remote into our desktop computer after he claimed we needed to update our antivirus software. He locked us out of our system and demanded we pay him money to access it.

We refused to pay him and hired a computer consultant who unlocked our system and reinstalled the operating system.

Fast forward to 2020, the Year the Pandemic walloped us. My husband and I discovered someone tried to file a fake income tax return using our personal information. From what I gathered from representatives at the IRS and other New York and New Jersey government agencies, some jerk(s) stole my husband’s Social Security number.

Hacking and identity theft happen to everyday people, as well as to big organizations like SolarWinds and the U.S. government.

What can we do to prevent others from hacking us and stealing our personal information?

Safely.o strives to share information on how we can safeguard our information on the internet and avoid becoming victims.
